“I don’t much believe in the hoo-doo of most popular religions of the world but sometimes just sometimes I think signs do appear to us if we pay attention. The sunglasses in the shadows meant shit was going to be cool on this trip with the Solitary Arts on their first ever mission. Hours later, I’m still in stupification of what an experience it was. Thank you!”

(Due to some lap top issues – mine is full and broken, I was unable to blog from the road as planned.)

Sorry.

-Isaac McKay-Randozzi

The above & below foto’s and story is from Isaac Mckay-Randozzi’s blog on COLOUR skate mags website.  This was my first time meeting and traveling with Isaac on this road-trip… MUCH THANKS Isaac for the great times, stories and your insights… MUCH RESPECT!

Meeting of the Solitarians. Bob, Jef and Yong-Ki (l-r).

Packing Bob’s van aka the Mule. Jef Hartsel loads up a box of display items with an energy that lasted all trip. Dude was all smiles.

Bob Lake, driver, pool madman and fellow bearded creep assesses the situation of his Vanagon.

Yong-Ki and Hartsel talk about shapes of the soon to come pro boards for Bob and him.

Rest stop find.

R. Kelly inspired pee-pee art.

We pulled into LA, checked into the hotel then hit a local Indian spot for some good food. Jerky gives me the winds.

LA.

Bob checks out one of Jef’s set-ups. Even after 3 decades of skating bob is still a kid.

My office, before I realized my computer is utter poop and I need something made after 2003. At least I don’t have any flat spots.

Chillin’ in the hotel room, thanks Scion!

The next day we hit the gallery and started to get organized, the Quiet Life was right next to use, stoked!!!

The theme of the show was passion projects. Endeavors of artists who do something outside their regular jobs in the industry. The items they have created and that were showcased came from their hearts. Axes to the heart.

Hartsel scopes out the layout.

Bob cuts some paper for layout use.

Quiet Life display items.

Outside I saw this guy.

DISSIZIT! x EZ RYDER ORIGINALZ / Collab “Look-book”…

Following up with our recent EZR blog-post… some good skate-homies and i got together today for a Sunday afternoon skate sesh here in da’ islands.  We got dipped in some fresh new gear from da’ DZT/EZR collab release and headed for Aiea(Slick’s home turf) to skate one of Hawaii’s longest running, and legendary skate “canal”(called a “ditch”, in da’ mainland) “Zones”.  Whats really cool about this spot is that there’s 2 completely different sides to this spot.  “Zones” and “Baby Zones” exists on both opposing sides of H-1 freeway and theres a underground tube(unskateable surface) below that you can walk thru connecting the 2 spots!  “Zones” has always been one of my favorite places to skate ever since our family all moved here back in the early 80’s… and sadly enough, “Zones” side is no longer skateable… which is the deeper side with “mini-gaps” and DIY extensions.  But “Baby Zones” is still being skated by the younger generation and da’ homies has been adding to the “classic” spot thru collective DIY missions.  Heck’a ROUGH skate surface with every kind of debris that can break-you-off at any given moment… we all went for it today and had a GREAT TIME!!

Skating PRO with NATURAL KONCEPTS, Hawaii’s very own Sean Reilly has been down with EZR & POETREE since day 1.  Front pop-shove on the almost “non-skatable” surface…

GRAVIS SKATE 2012 Preview / Cloud 9 foot bed art for the new FILTER-DURO skate shoe by: J.H.

Just received a sample-box of the new Spring/Summer 2012 catalogs and production samples of the new “FILTER-DURO” skate shoe from GRAVIS SKATEBOARDING.  I’ve been really excited and looking forward to seeing these in real life.  i was fortunate to be asked to work on these CLOUD 9 footbeds for the release of this new shoe a while back.   i’ve mostly been skating in either the DYLAN slip-on’s, or the ARTO lo’s… but in recent month’s, i’ve been living & skating in my FILTER’s.  These are amazingly functional & stylish skate-shoe already… and they just got even better with the new “suede” half-moon “ollie” patch!  This is good news, since i usually wear thru the “sides” of my skate shoe before the soles.  i did a post a while back when the GRAVIS skate team was in town about the foot-bed art for this shoe… but had to censor the actual samples out of the fotos in the post due to timing of its release.  Well, GRAVIS is now pre-booking and selling the shoe thru their sales departments and team of reps in all-territories.  Special THANKS to my close friends Mark Oblow/ Brand Director, Kelly Kikuta/Art Director, and Bobby Tang/Prod. Artist for all of your guidance & support!!!  Looking forward to more projects together in the future!

On the top of my list of FAVE skaters, Dylan Rieder on the cover.  Really look at this pic now, either a kick or heel flip over the barrior and down the flight of stairs… Really?!?!?!  WTF!  i’ll stick to drawing and making designs for footbeds instead haha!

The new FILTER “Quarter” model’s are goin’ to be DOPE!!!

Mahalo’s Bobby for the LOVE in the new catalog… totaly unexpected, i thought the interview was for the GRAVIS site only… STOKED!!

KEEP IT WHEEL!!! / Crailtap.com x GIRL “love”…

After living many years here in da Hawaiian islands, i’ve often told other visiting skateboarders that… almost all skate spots here are super “rough”.  Hence, what we call “smooth” here would be equal to Mainland “rough”… and what we would call “rough” here is mainland “unskateable”, haha!!!  There’s a lot of “cored” soft-duro cruiser type wheels on the market right now, but most are far from a compromise for those who still want to get there tech on while rolling thru the streets.  The GIRL & CRAILTAP fams finally did “cruiser” wheels some waaaay-overdue justice!  Just in the sizes that they’ve covered, 50 mm… 52 mm… and 54’s.  I’m not exactly sure what durometer the hardness of these wheels are, but my guess would be between 80 – 87 duro hard… or soft, depending on what your looking for in a wheel.  And thats just it, for most “all terrain” type of performance skatboarding… a “medium” hardness wheel works best.  Since most soft wheels are designed for grip, they always seem to come with a hard and “square” edge.  These “double” radius-wheels has grip, holds speed, and still “releases” when you want them too.  The smaller “sizes” keeps the set-up lighter too!  We’re STOKED on these samples that we received from GIRL & CRAILTAP.COM. Big thanks to the one and only, Jordy-Clot & Rick Howard for sending these over quick-fast!!  We’ll be working on releasing some EZR competes in the near future with these FUN wheels… in the meantime, you can probably get them at your local reputable skate dealer.  KEEP IT WHEEL!!!

Dont’t SLEEP… PEEP their site!!

Haha, DON”T MESS WITH TEXXXXX… i mean TORRANCE!

Skate candy…

MAHALO’s JORDAN & RICK… ya’ll make “work” look like too much FUN!!!  STOKED4LIFE…

i received a RSVP invite for the celebration(Thanks Kent!), but unfortunately i couldn’t travel to make it at the time.  However, recently… i received a unexpected call from a long time bay-area shredder and FTC O.G. Rick Ibaseta!  Rick called me up one day to say that he was just up da street from where i live, and that he had a special care package for me from Kent at FTC.  i got to meet Rick, his wife & kids, and his local fam’s who also lives on our island.  Ever since i frst began skating, from what i can remember, it’s moments like this is how this skate-culture of our’s grew & spread across this globe… like real-family, everyone always look’n out for each other and SHARING THE STOKE of skateboarding!!!  Once again, and always… THANK YOU RICK & FAMILIA, KENT UYEHARA & da entire FTC CREW!!!  I’ll definitely be there for the next FTC Anniversary event… ALOHA NUI LOA!

FTC always come correct with all of their hard & soft goods… FOR THE CITY!!!

Quarte-century in the game… and ain’t lett’n up anytime soon!

HAPPY FEET… / Package from, STANCE™ “The Uncommon Thread”

In just one year in the game & business, STANCE™ continues on their mission in bringing us “the uncommon thread” and the best in skate-sox.  Comfort, durability & style… all in one package makes it really abuser-friendly.  You can check out their newest line of products by going to www.stance.com.  Our good homie and bredrin Ryan Kingman is behind this project and has been hooking Jay Boy & i up since day one.  i’ve never personally put too much thought into choosing my sox before, but i must say… i LOVE these sox!!!  i personally rock the “invisible” and the “low rider” models, but i’m now digg’n on these “standard” length ones too!  i haven’t tried the “gripper cush” model yet, but i can see that these would be great for high-impact street skating.  Whats cool is, whatever it is that you look for in sox, they’ve got it covered!  i know that Duane Peters & Jay Adams been rock’n theirs and their STOKED about’em too. Dudes like Andrew Reynolds, Jason Jesse, Ford Archbold and Greyson Fletcher rides for them too, just to name a few.  Much thanks to Kingman & the crew at STANCE for hooking us UP!!!

The new sock-quiver from STANCE…

Red, Gold, Green & Black “Low riders” in effect…

Since i like to skate in super low-profile & minimal skate-shoes, i really like the “invisible” model…
